'One of the dilemmas of working with people is knowing what questions to ask, and what to do with the answers. Language has enormous power to influence our thoughts and responses. This manual provides a cornucopia of wonderful questions to ask, first, ourselves, and secondly, others. Many of the questions are ones we seldom if ever ask ourselves, let alone others, even in the safety of a psychotherapy session.
As a clinical social worker with a private practice as a psychotherapist, I welcome this manual. It is clear, straightforward, helpful and hopeful. It nurtures curiosity about ourselves and others , can be used in many ways in many settings. It speaks directly to the experience of lesbian and gay people and effectively addresses some of our uniqueness while staying well grounded in the universal issues every human faces.
It creates more space for us to know our own story; it will help others grapple with really understanding what it means in day to day life to be part of a stigmatized, oppressed group. And always it leads to hopefulness, openness and honesty within ourselves and with others.
It is my pleasure to actively support and endorse Explorer; use it in your teaching, in large and small groups, with friends, colleagues and clients, with yourself and your family; you will be enriched by the learning and by the process.'
